Your Accommodation

Your accommodation is pretty much the key to your holiday. The variety of different styles, standards and locations is enormous so we’ve provided as much factual information as possible to help you choose the right one.

Individual descriptions give you basic facts, figures, and photographs of several aspects of the accommodation. It is only fair to point out that not every room in each property is identical or has the same views. We also show an interior picture where possible, although we aren’t always able to gain access to all villas as some holidaymakers don’t want the interruption. Distances are usually measured from the nearest point of public access, so if you have a room in the grounds, it may be further away or nearer than stated in the brochure text.

Exclusive to Monarch Holidays

You'll find properties in this brochure that are either totally exclusive to us, or exclusive to us in the UK market; in other words they won't appear in the brochures of any other UK tour operator.

Hotels

Our reference to “Hotel” in this brochure covers all accommodation and does not necessarily distinguish between local classifications such as “Aparthotel”, “Hostel”, “Pension”, “Taverna”, “Residencia” etc.

Hotel Rooms

Bedroom descriptions are as follows: Twin = room with 2 single beds; Double = room with a double bed; Single = room with a single bed; Sole occupancy = twin or double room for use by one person. Single rooms are scarce & may not be the same general standard as twin rooms; they may be smaller with no balcony. Also see under “PRICES” relating to single rooms & travellers. Three or four bedded rooms usually mean a twin bedded room with extra folding or bunk beds or will consist of double beds, so you will need to be prepared for having less space. When a 5th person is sharing the room, the extra bed will normally be a foldaway or rollaway type which is easier to move in and out of rooms, so you will need to be prepared for having less space. Extra beds may well be the folding types, which are easier to move in & out of rooms. If our description indicates “bath or shower” we are not able to guarantee which you will get, since rooms vary. We will, however, make a note of any particular preference you have and pass it on to the hotel, provided you make it clear at the time of booking.

Apartments

These are self-contained units with at least one separate bedroom, shower room or bathroom and are usually on one level, although they may occasionally be split-level. They are equipped with basic cooking facilities (minimum of two cooking rings and fridge) and have crockery, cutlery and utensils for the maximum number of people who can occupy it. All apartments are provided with bed linen and towels (not beach towels) which are changed at least once a week. Apartment descriptions tell you how many adults can occupy an apartment (eg. apartment for up to 6) although if your party is less than the maximum, there may not be 6 'beds' at the time of your stay.

Studios

These are one room which acts as living and sleeping accommodation and has basic cooking facilities (usually 2 rings and a fridge) and a mixture of single beds and convertible sofas or divans depending on its size.

Villas

The stated maximum number of people who can occupy a villa doesn't include any infants in your party. All villas are equipped with crockery, cutlery and utensils for the maximum number of people who can stay there. As a minimum there are 2 ring cookers, although some have 4, and most have a conventional oven or microwave. Some have both. All have a fridge. Bedding, bathroom towels and a cleaning service are provided (not for washing up) - see Maid Service for more details. Most villas have a TV and washing machine as standard. If any basic facilities are not provided or if your villa hasn’t been cleaned, or if you have any other problems, please let the Villa Owner, our local agent, Representative (where available) or 24Hr Duty office, know immediately.

Homes

The variety of different styles, standards and locations is enormous, so we’ve provided as much factual information as possible to help you choose your villa holiday. The stated maximum number of people who can occupy a home includes any infants in your party. Monarch Holidays uses a variety of home management companies and therefore on arrival at the airport, you will be given directions to the one that manages your chosen home. If you arrive outside the home management company opening times, your home keys and directions are normally left in a lock box; directions to which you will be given at the airport. Most homes are on residential estates.

Satellite TV

Properties with Satellite TV may have a limited number of English channels. Payment may be required for access to additional channels and some may incur a local charge. Satellite TV does not include access to subscription channels such as Sky Sports, movies etc. We are unable to guarantee the provision of specific satellite channels.

Deposits

In some areas you may be asked to pay a deposit in apartments or studios and villas to cover accidental damage or breakage - this is refundable when you leave. Some areas also require a key deposit (again refundable).

Diamond Ratings

Official ratings are set by relevant overseas authorities (where applicable), but unfortunately do not represent a consistent way of comparing accommodation standards from one country to the next. Therefore, Monarch Holidays has established its own Diamond ratings to help you choose. These are based on our own knowledge at the time of going to press, and take into account facilities, food, service and location as well as the characteristic differences between hotels and apartments. The ratings are given on a scale of 2-5 diamonds and represent a range from basic good value without frills to above average with extra comfort. Properties with a 'plus’ rating are those which have that little something extra that stands them apart. Not all accommodation within the same rating will necessarily offer the same facilities.

Number of Nights

Your accommodation is reserved for you on the day you leave the UK (see also ’Check-in/Check-out’ below). For night flights departing after midnight, the day you leave the UK is deemed to be the previous day so that you have immediate access when you arrive. Where half or full board has been booked and flight timings may mean losing one meal, your holiday price has been adjusted to compensate. For homeward night flights departing after midnight, the day you leave the villa is deemed to be the previous day.

Check-in/Check-out

Checking in and checking out times vary slightly from resort to resort, but generally are as follows: check in from 2pm - on occasions it may be later: (4pm in villas). Check out on the last day of your holiday varies by accommodation and is between 10am in apartments/villas and midday in hotels. In some cases you may have to wait to access your accommodation depending on your flight arrival time or have several hours before your homeward flight departs. Wherever possible a room will be made available for changing and storing luggage. Sometimes hotels may let you keep your room (arranged in resort) but they are entitled to make a charge. This is not normally possible with
apartments/villas.

Dubai/Mauritius single centre holidays: For certain Dubai and Mauritius holidays, you may arrive early in the morning and/or depart late in the evening. It may not be possible to check in to your room until 2pm or check out after midday, although you may use the hotel facilities (not all-inclusive) and a courtesy room before/after this time.

Dubai & Maldives/Dubai & Mauritius/Dubai & Sri Lanka two centre holidays: For guests travelling from Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, your room in Dubai will be made available immediately upon arrival and this will count as your first night in Dubai. When leaving Dubai all guests travelling from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow will be given a late check-out allowing them to keep their room up until the transfer for their onward flight from Dubai to the Maldives, Mauritius or Sri Lanka. When leaving Mauritius or Sri Lanka all guests will be provided with a late check-out in their hotel or given use of a day room at an airport hotel when returning from the Maldives to the UK.

Availability of Facilities

Sometimes advertised facilities may not be available or fully operational in the early and late part of the season, particularly March-early April or late October and the early part of December. Air-conditioning and heating is controlled by hoteliers and may only be available at certain times of the day or year. Unless stated otherwise, some facilities at hotels and beaches (eg. sun beds and/or mattresses, parasols, towels, water sports, sports equipment, gyms, saunas, safety deposit boxes, air-conditioning, satellite TV, minibars, disco, cots) may incur a local charge. See also the “ALL INCLUSIVE HOLIDAYS” section (below) and the “PRICES” section.

Some properties now utilise solar power for heating water, and although we encourage this in terms of the environment, it does sometimes lead to a reduced hot water supply if there is insufficient sunlight.

Maid Service

Properties have a maid service for general cleaning duties and bedding/towel changes as appropriate, which does not include washing up, and varies from area to area and between hotels. The frequency of cleaning as specified in the individual property descriptions, and villa factfiles may include the cleaning on the arrival day and departure, and will include at least once a week, but will vary from area to area.

Villa Only

If you are more independently minded and prefer to make your own flight and travel arrangements, all our featured villas (except Gozo) can be booked on an accommodation only basis. Villas are available for 7 or 14, 21 and 28 nights on the same departure days as detailed in this brochure. The price of an accommodation only villa excludes flights, car rental and a welcome pack but will still include in villa services like cleaning etc.

Swimming Pools

Hotels usually only heat their swimming pools during cold weather, subject to the number of clients in residence. The decision must of course rest with the establishment. Occasionally pools will not be available at the very beginning of the season, however, we will endeavour to advise you prior to departure. Occasionally pools will be filled with seawater. See individual property descriptions.

Meals

Self-service buffet-style meals are now the most popular methods of meal service in hotels, and include hot and cold dishes. Not all hotels have a choice of menu, others may offer two sittings at meal times for your comfort and at certain properties the choice of restaurants offering the advertised board basis may be restricted; if this is the case, you may have to pay a charge to eat at the other restaurant(s). Our descriptions show the meal arrangements available at your hotel although occasionally these may change.

All Inclusive Holidays

All Inclusive normally includes all meals and local drinks (during the bar opening hours as specified as well as day and evening activities at your hotel. Beer available in the 'All Inclusive’ package is usually draught not bottled, 'local’ wine is usually house wine served by the glass from a barrel not a bottle and carbonated soft drinks are usually on tap not bottled. Some Muslim countries (e.g. Maldives) import ALL alcoholic drinks, so check the individual resort description for what’s included in the All Inclusive. Drinks may be served in plastic beakers not glass, particularly around swimming pools. Some countries serve local-style cuisine rather than international. The services, facilities and meals available do vary from hotel to hotel, so make sure you check the paragraph headed “All Inclusive” with each hotel description for exact details. An extra charge will be made for imported alcoholic drinks and certain facilities such as games machines or pool tables still require you to insert your own coins. You must also pay for infants’ meals locally. Note: Times when included drinks and snacks are served may sometimes vary from those shown, but are typically between 11am and midnight. A 'cash’ bar may operate outside these times. Alcohol licensing laws vary for different countries so guests cannot be served with alcoholic drinks in All-Inclusive hotels if they are 'under age’ for that country. There may also be age or experience restrictions on some watersports.

Smoking

You should be aware that many hotels, restaurants and other venues are being designated non-smoking, often because of local or national legislation. If you believe that such restrictions will seriously impair your holiday plans, please check with us before booking. If we are aware of any restrictions we will confirm this information upon request, but we must stress that we are unable to alert you of any changes that may be made after your booking is confirmed.

Dress Code

All Elite properties and some other hotels request that men wear long trousers for dinner, not shorts and t-shirts. See individual property descriptions.

Christmas and New Year

Where special gala meals are included in the price this is clearly shown in the hotel description under ’Special Features’. In a few cases, additional optional events may be organised by the hotelier. Any charge for these will be advised on your arrival and may be paid for locally. However, at the time of going to press, some hotels had not finalised their entertainment programmes. In these cases, if a charge is subsequently made, you will be asked to pay locally direct to the hotelier if you wish to participate. Please note that some countries may celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, and gala meals and festivities vary from resort to resort and from hotel to hotel. Smart dress is recommended for gala meals in most places.

Pets

Pets are not allowed in any of our properties.
