Picture-perfect Lindos looks like it's dropped from a fairytale: a dazzling whitewashed village clinging to a hill on Rhodes' east coast, it's topped by a fortified acropolis and overlooks a spectacular horseshoe-shaped bay.

In the old town, narrow traffic-free lanes lined with sugar-cube houses, bars and shops curl towards the acropolis, where you can admire Roman and classical antiquities, together with breath-stopping views. At night, the village twinkles with rooftop bars, tavernas and crepe restaurants, whilst during the day, Lindos beach fills with holidaymakers drawn by its sands and watersports. There are modern areas offering discos and international restaurants and to cast your net wider, you can head for the nearby quieter bays at St. Paul's and Vlicha. Alternatively, take a bus into historic Rhodes Town or catch a relaxing boat excursion to Symi.
