As the island has a special tax-free law, you can buy cigarettes and alcohol at much lower prices to the UK - and take back as much as you can possible carry, too! The special herbs from Rhodes and Symi make an interesting buy, as is the delicious island honey. Cuisine

As in many of the Greek Islands, the best way to appreciate the sheer variety of Greek specialities is by ordering a meze. This consists of small plates of dips as well as local fish and meat dishes for the whole family to enjoy. Tavernas and restaurants also offer a broad range of local and international cuisine.

Night-life

Many resorts on the island offer a wide selection of bars and night-life. But if you want to be completely spoilt for choice, then Rhodes Town and Faliraki are the places to go for all-night entertainment.
