Set on the north-eastern shores of the lake, Malcesine is probably the most popular resort in the area. This beautiful town boasts a pretty promenade beside the lake's shores, a small harbour and picturesque, narrow lanes. The Scaliger Castle is set on higher ground and provides wonderful views of the lake, whilst for a more dramatic view, visitors can ascend 1800 metres by cable car to the top of Monte Baldo. Malcesine was once the seat of the Veronese Captains of the Lake and their palazzo is now the town hall.
