Italy - Ischia holidays
introduction to Ischia
Ischia is the largest of the islands lying off the Neapolitan Riviera. This beautiful isle consists of sandy beaches in the south and contrasting wild scenery in the north. Ischia has a history of volcanic activity and as a result it is well known for its bathing and spa resorts, thanks to the mineral-rich waters. Ischia Town, in the north-east, is divided into Ischia Ponte, the Old Town - originally a fishing village and Ischia Porto, the new town and departure point for ferries to the mainland. Forio on the west coast is a characteristic town surrounded by vineyards and it is made up of pretty narrow streets and whitewashed houses.
