Maldives - Haa Alifu Atoll holidays

introduction to Haa Alifu Atoll

The furthest north atoll in the Maldives, Haa Alifu Atoll is made up of 42 individual islands, 14 of which are inhabited. The area is a late starter in terms of tourism development, there are only 3 resort islands in the atoll, the first of which opened in 2005. The area was a key staging post for the British in WWII and is a well-known stopover for keen sailors who travel around the Indian Ocean. A key historic sight on the atoll is the mosque on Kelaa island, built in the late 1700s.
