Visitors to Cairo in the new year will not just be able to see a historic and vibrant city through which runs the world's longest river, nor just find themselves in a country with a history as famous and enduring as almost any on Earth.
All this will be there waiting to greet visitors escaping the winter cold - as will the Cairo International Book Fair.
Held in January 2008 (dates to be confirmed), the fair is a large international event with publishers and writers from around the world showing off their wares.
Bookworms will be able to immerse themselves in the world of literature and may also be able to pick up a gem or two that isn't available in the shops back home.
Having enjoyed the indoor treat, those staying in the city will also be able to experience its everyday cultural riches, as well as the historic attractions such as the nearby Pyramids.
