travel news - Record Year For "vibrant" New York
Record year for "vibrant" New York
January 15 2008
The "vibrant" city of New York had a record year in terms of tourist numbers during 2007, it has been revealed.
According to the Associated Press, there was a five per cent increase in tourist traffic over this period with 46 million visitors attending the city last year.
George Fertitta, chief executive of the company providing the report - NYC & Company - claimed that the city was more "vibrant", "clean" and "safe" than ever before.
"Wherever you go in the city, you hear language after language. [Tourism] has become part of the vibrancy of the city," newsday quoted him as saying.
The figures showed that international tourism was also key to the increase in overall tourist figures, with an additional 8.5 million overseas visitors going to see the city in 2007.
The estimated amount spent by visitors in New York is $28 billion (£14 billion).
