travel news - A Song For Cyprus
A song for Cyprus
January 18 2008
This March the hills of Cyprus will come alive with the sound of music as a special event takes place in Lemesos.
An Oscar Winning Songs night will be held at the Patticheion Municipal Theatre on March 30th 2008.
According to the Cyprus Tourism Association, a compilation of songs that won the Academy Award for Best Song at past Oscar ceremonies will be performed in a special recital.
The songs, that must be "original and written specifically for the film", will be performed by musical and theatre stars Deborah Myers and Graham Bickleyto, while music will be arranged by pianist and "acclaimed maestro" Richard Balcombe.
Songs likely to be included in the repertoire are Up Where We Belong, Take My Breath Away, Streets Of Philadelphia, Evergreen, Que Sera, Sera and Fame.
The Academy Award for Best Original Song was introduced at the 7th Academy Awards which took place in 1934.
