Portugal has been described as the "perfect holiday resort" by one commentator.
According to James Aitkin, director of Quinta Sales, Portugal is a "paradise" as it has everything that one could desire out of a holiday.
In addition to being easy to get to from the UK, it has the most "sunshine hours" in all of Europe, he added.
"You have fantastic long, golden sandy beaches and the people are hospitable and very friendly. They mostly speak English which is very helpful to the English tourist," Mr Aitkin continued.
In terms of food, the local restaurants offer budget price value for money cuisine in addition to boasting a number of opposite-end Michelin-star restaurants.
Families who do not wish to lie on the "golden" beaches can indulge in a number of other activities such as golf, tennis and horse riding.
New developments in Portugal include developments including an international theme park, a Formula One track and many golf courses.
