travel news - Dubai Set To See Theme Parks Built On Palm Tree Island
Dubai set to see theme parks built on palm tree island
February 29 2008
The popular holiday destination of Dubai is set to see a group of theme parks built off its coast, it has been revealed.
Global business Anheuser-Busch announced plans to construct the World of Discovery on the manmade Palm Jebel Ali island, which is shaped like a palm tree.
World of Discovery will include four theme parks - Aquatica, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove - in addition to a host of resort hotels, retail outlets and restaurants.
It will be specifically located on the crown of the island, which is to be shaped like a giant killer whale when it is finally completed.
"We are extremely honoured that the Palm Jebel Ali will become home to the first Worlds of Discovery theme parks outside of the US," said Chris O'Donnell, chief executive officer of development group Nakheel.
There are already two Busch Gardens parks in the US, with one in Virginia and the other in Florida.
