travel news - Bulgaria 'is Cheapest Holiday Location In Europe'
Bulgaria 'is cheapest holiday location in Europe'
April 21 2008
Bulgaria has been named as the cheapest holiday location in Europe by one commentator.
The country was named as the cheapest of a number of holiday destinations in Europe by Post Office, whose research discovered that many long-haul holiday destinations are emerging as lower-cost holiday spots in comparison to some eurozone locations.
Summer breaks to far-flung locations such as USA, Thailand, South Africa and Egypt were also cited as cheaper destinations in terms of the price of holiday commodities like drinks and meals out.
"Holidaymakers planning trips further afield this year will get excellent value for money by travelling to long-haul destinations. Travellers watching their wallets could get better deals in Europe by choosing to holiday outside the eurozone," Helen Warburton, Post Office head of travel, said.
Bulgaria was named as the cheapest European destination, closely followed by Turkey - with a dinner for two out plus wine costing a fifth less in this country at £30.14 than in the eurozone countries of France, Greece, Portugal and Italy.
Sofia News recently reported that the head of the Bulgaria's state agency for tourism Aneliya Krushkova has called for a "boost" in cultural tourism.
