What to see on a walking tour of New York

As more Europeans are opting to spend their holidays in New York to take advantage of the weak dollar, a group of scholars have chosen to bring European walking tours to the Big Apple.
The group, known as Context, is made up of professors, graduate students and experts who organise small-group walks based around a theme that appeal to the "intellectually curious" holidaymaker.
Walks around New York offered by the group include Archaeology of Manhattan, Impressionism (and Its Context), Jackson Heights: Immigration and Architecture, Morgan Library, Architecture of NY and Chocolate Affair.
"The city is as rich in art, culture and history as our European bases; and a number of the scholars who lead our walks abroad have returned here to teach or do post-doctoral work," commented the organisation's founder, National Geographic writer Paul Bennett.
The Archaeology of Manhattan walk introduces tourists to the urban archaeology of Manhattan including 17th century cisterns and pre-settlement artefacts as well as the African Burial Grounds.
New York has a number of nicknames including the Big Apple, the City That Never Sleeps, Gotham and The Empire City.
