travel news - Growth Of Youth Travel Revealed
Growth of youth travel revealed
May 23 2008
Young travellers are spending more money and time abroad than five years ago, according to a new survey.
One in five international arrivals form part of the youth travel market, the report by UNWTO and the World Youth, Student and Educational Travel Confederation found.
Such holiday makers spend more time than other tourists in the countries they visit and spend around 40 per cent more on their trips than they did in 2002.
Language travel and working holidays remain popular with this demographic.
While the UK remains the strongest destination for holiday makers wishing to learn the language, China is among the new up-and-coming locations for this kind of trip.
Several Chinese universities offer visitors the opportunity to learn the language while immersing themselves in local culture.
The My Study in China website lists a range of programmes offering language courses for people learning Chinese as a beginner or advanced level.
