travel news - Historic Majorca Wall To Get A Makeover
Historic Majorca wall to get a makeover
May 23 2008
The refurbishment of a historic site in Majorca is set to start later this year.
Baluard des Princep is part of the old Palma city wall where Avenidas meets the ocean and is set to benefit from a 100 million (£79.4 million) investment to restore it to its former glory, reports the Majorca Daily Bulletin.
The two-phase project will start later this year, with holiday makers set to benefit from the completed product from the end of next year.
Elias Torres, the architect responsible for the project, explained that an "open, civic space" was to be created, while the original military function of the area would be respected.
Holiday makers who visit the Baluard after the restoration has been completed will be able to visit an interpretative centre within the wall.
This tourist area will also feature an exhibition area, bar, cafe and shop.
According to the Travel DK website, the best area of the old wall is Parc de la Mar, a park situated next to the cathedral, where open-air concerts are often held.
