Corfu is 'greenest island'

Corfu, the self proclaimed greenest island in the Greek archipelago, is still a favourite for British holidaymakers, it has been claimed.

According to the Telegraph, there are a number of "soulful" elements in Corfu despite its recent popularity among the 18-30s crowd.

From the cricket ground to the varied architectural styles in Corfu Town, there is much to recommend the island's capital.

Holidaymakers can take in vistas of the Venetian bell-tower, small Greek Orthodox churches, rambling cobbled streets and even a house that once welcomed Edward Lear in the 1860s.

Of course the Esplanade and the old Venetian castle alongside the Achilleion Palace are noteworthy in their own rights.

The Achilleion Palace was built late on in the 19th century by Queen Elizabeth of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

The publication recommends hiring a car and visiting the beaches on the west coast of Corfu.
