Dubai Summer Surprises 2008, the major summer shopping event in the United Arab Emirates is due to kick off this weekend.
Running from June 19th until August 22nd 2008, Dubai Summer Surprises claims to have come a long way from earlier editions of the extravaganza by building on the success of previous years.
The three main elements of the event include shopping, winning and entertainment.
Dubai Summer Surprises is held annually and features a variety of activities, many of which take place in Dubai's famous shopping malls.
Converted especially for the occasion, they become live entertainment venues where dancing and competitions as well as workshops can take place.
Dubai Summer Surprises is a major economic earner for Dubai and the theme of the event varies from year to year.
Visitors spent roughly AED 3.21 billion in 2007, which Al Bawaba claims is "a clear indication of the event's ability to drive economic growth during summer".
