travel news - Tourist Urged To Trot Along To Manacor
Tourist urged to trot along to Manacor
July 18 2008
Tourists from the UK heading over to Majorca for their holidays this year have been urged to check out the sport of trotting in the town of Manacor.
The town is in the north-east of the Spanish island and is a Mecca for local lovers of the horse racing event that looks a little different to the equivalent events in Britain.
Rather than sitting on top of the horses in the race, trotting jockeys take their position in a cart behind their animal and try to make it across the finish line ahead of their rivals.
According to Jan Dunn form the Telegraph, trotting is an enthralling sport and offers a good day out for anyone in the Manacor region of Majorca.
Mr Dunn also points out that because the sport takes place in the Mediterranean, spectators can be almost guaranteed a full day of glorious sunshine.
Manacor is also known as the home town of tennis hero Rafa Nadal, who recently defeated the world number one Roger Federer in a thrilling encounter in the finals of Wimbledon.
