travel news - Athlete Gives Maldives The Gold Medal
Athlete gives Maldives the gold medal
July 31 2008
British heptathlon sportswoman Jessica Ennis has named the Maldives as her favourite holiday destination.
In an interview with the Times she revealed that one of her most memorable holidays was spent relaxing on the stunning beaches of the resort after a tough performance in a major sporting competition.
"It was after the world championships, which came at the end of a long year because I had finished at university," explained Ennis when questioned about her favourite vacation.
She added: "It was nice to have some time to relax on the beach."
The athlete will not be representing Great Britain in the forthcoming Olympic Games because of an injury; however, she is now focused on a medal winning performance in London 2012.
Located in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is a favourite with tourists looking to enjoy holidays that offer both relaxation and a stunning setting. With a clear blue ocean, the country is also a great place to learn to scuba dive and experience some amazing underwater scenery.
