travel news - Tourism Boost For Turkey
Tourism boost for Turkey
August 20 2008
The number of people visiting Turkey is continuing to increase, according to new figures.
Turkey's Statistical Institute has revealed that the number of overseas people taking holidays in the country has risen significantly. A total of 10.69 million visitors travelled to Turkey in the first half of the year - 16.36 per cent more than over the same period in 2007.
The growth means that the country has also seen a strong increase in revenue generated by the tourism industry in the past year and this has encouraged the development of further facilities for foreign visitors.
Holidays in Turkey are ideal for those looking to escape the lacklustre British summer weather. With sandy beaches, clear seas as well as top quality restaurants and bars, the main resorts of Bodrum and Izmir offer the perfect holiday destination for families and couples.
Turkey also boasts a strong historical and cultural tradition, with strong influences from both the Byzantine and Ottoman periods.
