Brits 'will continue to spend on holidays'

A recently released survey has shown that people in the UK will continue to prioritise spending on holidays in 2009, despite the onset of recession.

The survey, conducted by the leading accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), shows that even in the midst of the credit crunch, holiday spending is still Brits' second spending priority after paying off bills and credit card debts.

TravelMole reported that the survey also revealed that among certain sectors of the population - those on higher incomes and retirees - splashing their cash on holidays is still the number one spending priority.

Malcolm Preston, PwC's head of travel, said: "These results show the UK consumer is still set on escaping the recession depression and refusing to sacrifice the summer or family holiday."

Last month, the largest survey of the UK's travel habits, conducted by the Telegraph, revealed that the credit crunch would not stop 92 per cent of tourists from holidaying in their favourite destinations.
