travel news - Tourism In Tunisia Still Booming
Tourism in Tunisia still booming
December 3 2008
Recently released figures show that Tunisia continues to remain a popular destination for tourists despite the global economic downturn.
The country has long enjoyed a reputation as a winter sun hotspot - a fact reflected in the government figures reported by Reuters, which showed that the number of tourists visiting the country has risen over the last year.
Between January and October 2008 Tunisia attracted 6.28 million visitors, an increase of 3.4 per cent on the previous year.
At the same time the amount of money tourists spent in the country was 2.9 billion dinars (£1.4 billion) this year, up from 2.63 billion dinars for the same period in 2007.
The Tunisian government predicts that by the end of the year tourists enjoying the winter sun will have spent a further 0.1 billion dinars, representing an eight per cent increase on last year's overall total.
Tunisia can enjoy temperatures of up to 27 degrees C in December according to the BBC.
